Mudra Guest Designer - Sabiha Khan

Hi Crafters,

Today we have a Guest Designer with Simple and Striking projects.

Let's hear now from Sabiha Khan :)

"Hi Every one!

I am Sabiha Khan from Ahmedabad. I am a house wife, mother of two lovely kids and a passionate crafter at heart. I love Art & Craft and always wished to learn more & try new things. Recently while making scrapbooks came across this beautiful world of card making with different techniques. I love to make cards and gift them to my loved ones.

I am very much excited and honored to guest design for Mudra Crafts Stamps. Thankyou so much Varsitha for giving me this opportunity, this is my first ever opportunity to guest design for any company and would like to thank Mudra for this.

Today, I am here with my four different cards which I hope you all would love to see.
I have made two cards with masking technique, which is this month’s challenge too. The third card is with Heat embossing and coloring technique. In the last one I have made the background with smooching technique and the elements with heat embossing.

CARD 1

  • Took  a water color card stock and Mudra’s beautiful “Gometric nature” stamp set.
  • Took  flower image and masked the image in such a way that only one petal can be stamped.
  • Here single petal of flower is used as a diamond for the ring image.
  • Stamped the diamond image using Archieval black ink.
  • Used ranger bullet tip embossing pen to make the ring n heat embossed it with silver EP.
  • Coloured the diamond using gray zig marker n added some silver shimmer to give it a zing.
  • The ring is ready, now masked it using a masking paper cut in round shape.
  • Made rays around the circle using a masking tape.
  • Used distress inks fossiled amber and spied marmalade to make the rays.
  • For the bottom of the card used peacock feathers distress inks.
  • Remove all the masking and see the beautiful image of the ring with rays around it.
  • To finish off the card stamped the sentiment from the same stamp set with black archival ink.
  • Adhere the card on a black card stock and its ready.

 CARD 2

  • Took a water color card stock.
  • Made a thick border around the card stock with masking tape leaving just a rectangular window in the middle.
  • Took the stamp “ WITH LOADS OF LOVE” from the LOVE STAMP SET of MUDRA. Stamped the background with different colors of MOMENTO Inks.
  • Distressed the edges of the window with Spun Sugar Distress Inks.
  • Took Vellum and heat embossed the heart shaped balloons from the same stamp set with white embossing powder.
  • Colored the balloons from the back side with Zig Markers.
  • Took out the masking tape and adhered the balloons in such a way that they overlap each other. The overlapped area has a different color which is the combination of both the colors of the balloons.
  • Took some red and white color twines and made strings of the balloons.
  • Heat embossed the sentiment on a dark pink card stock with White EP.
  • Adhered it on the bottom of the card.
  • Distressed the edges of the card with picked raspberry  distressed inks.
  • Took a slightly larger card stock and adhered the prepared card on it.
  • It’s ready.

CARD 3

  • Used geometric nature stamp set in this card.
  • Took a water color CS and made random lines creating triangles using Ranger Embossing Bullet tip pen. Then heat embossed it with clear EP.
  • Colored the triangular shapes with zig marker pens to create this beautiful background.
  • Stamped few matching flowers from the stamp set with distress inks.
  • Took two different colored card stocks and stamped the butterfly image using versa mark and white embossing powder.
  • To give the dimension to the image, shaded the wings with embossing pen and white Faber castle water color pencils.
  • Fussy cut the butterflies and adhered it on the card with foam tape to give them a raised look.
  • Heat embossed the sentiment and adhered it in the middle of the  card.
  • It’s ready.

CARD 4

  • Used Mudra’s Zinnia stamp for this card.
  • Took water colored card stock.
  • Applied two distress inks, Crushed Olives and Twisted Citron on a craft sheet.
  • Sprayed water on it and smooched the card stock to get the beautiful background.
  • Randomly stamped the background with Mudra’s “OLD SCRIPT” stamp with peeled paint distress ink.
  • Heat embossed two Zinnia flowers and “HUGS” sentiment from Mudra's “LOVE” stamp set with gold embossing powder.
  • Colored only the middle of the flowers and fussy cut them.
  • Took all the images and adhered them with foam tapes to finish off the card.
  • Adhered the ready card on a golden card stock.
  • It’s ready.

Guys, hope you enjoyed my post. Happy crafting. Leave your love and comments ."

But Spring... always reminds me of the beautiful years, i spent at Taiwan and its memories are so dearly etched in heart.

For today's creations, i have come up with 2 Mixed media Tags and a long floral card.

Right onto Mixed Media Tags:

Floral Tag 1

  • Took a largest TH Tag diecut in kraft chipbaord and on to which applied White gesso all over, as gesso provides tooth for the further sprays and pigment layering.
  • Then used the stencil : Retro curves on one end and just applied Texture paste on other end.
  • Series of Sprays and LSG magical powders for the bg.
  • At top corner, stamped few leaves using Leaves stamps and added few Embossed Vellum leaves for added interest.

  • The base of the tag is layered with misted cheesecloth and glitter balls.
  • Roses from Wild rose set is stamped, colored using Zig markers and fussy cut.
  • These are added at various depth using foam adhesives for dimensions.
  • Vellum butterflies and sentiment are added with a generous splash of black mist.
Floral Tag 2

Butte

  • Took a largest TH Tag diecut in kraft chipboard.
  • Onto which applied Geometric Nature diagonally in the centre (but unfortunately its not shown here due to further layerings)
  • Its misted in various LSG sprays in the shades of blue.
  • Then its layered with burlap pieces, drywall tape and black doilies.
  • A white resin is added with a Gold heat embossed Butterfly which is colored using Fabercastell pencils.
  • To a white cs, smooshed the Yellow shimmery acrylic glaze and Wild rose is stamped to make a floral spray.
  • Then the florals are colored using colored pencils to add interest and depth.
  • They are then fussy cut and added near the butterfly.
  • Few stamping done using Build a ribbon set
  • Sentiment is then stamped on a white cs, fussy cut and added to the Tag.
  • Mudra Gold sequins are added as final touches.
Long Floral card:

Last card for today is a Long card, Did Noline coloring using Faber castell polychromos. Am in love with these Wild Roses, and so tried coloring using different mediums to bring about textures to these cuties. Hope you like these attempts.

  • Tried Noline coloring using Fabercastell polychromos pencils.
  • Masked and Stamped using Light ink and went over to color.
  • Finally splashes using Ice Grey gelato around the floral spray.
  • Stamped directly the sentiments on the front panel.
  • Added few Mudra Neon green sequins for the final touches.

  • After it got dried completely, I heat set it.
  • I completed the card with a sentiment from Stay Magical.

Bonus Projects:

Who doesn't love Jaipur's Famous Blue Pottery! I was so inspired by the designs in the Blue Pottery, that I decided to make my own version with the stencils.

These are MDF coasters of 4inch squares. I colored it with acrylic colors and covered them with Decoupage glue coats and Varnish.

This is an MDF penstand made with the same process as I did with the coasters.

Take a look on the other design.

Masking Magic with Stamps and Stencils

Hi everyone!! Indira here today with some fun ideas to use the masking technique with stencils and stamps.

Card no. 1 - Masking with Stencils
  1. Masked off parts of the stencil to color only the flowers/leaves desired.
  2. Used ink daubers for coloring with Distress inks.
  3. Fussy cut the flowers and leaves.
  4. Trimmed off petals from big flower to get a smaller flower.
  5. Used Geo Pattern stencil to make the bg with Squeezed lemonade DI.
  6. Added splatters on the bg with Black soot DI.
  7. Stamped the sentiment at the bottom.
  8. Arranged the floral bunch on top of the card using foam tape and liquid glue.
  9. Added some shimmer on the flowers with Clear wink of Stella pen.
  10. Finished off the card by adding the must have sequins from Mudra.

TIP:
  1. You can stretch your stencils to look like stamps.
  2. You can customize the size of the flowers by selectively cutting off petals from the actual design.

Card no. 2 - Outline Masking

  1. Started by making masks for all the flowers and leaves.
  2. Planned the layout of the floral clusters and stamped them .
  3. Masked off the flowers and leaves to create an illusion of one behind the other.
  4. Used colored inks instead of the usual black ink.
  5. Stamped the sentiment and popped it up with foam tape.
  6. Added some bling with the sequins from Mudra.

Card no. 3 - Masking and Watercoloring

  1. Created the floral cluster by lot of masking and stamping.
  2. Used Daniel Smith water colors and few Zig pens for highlights.
  3. Added extra foliage around the floral cluster to lend it a totally different look.
  4. Added splatters on the bg with Black soot DI.
  5. Took the card base and made a border on one side with washi tape.
  6. Glued the watercolored panel on the card base.
  7. Tied a paper twine to add to the rustic look of the card.
  8. Stamped and heat embossed the sentiment and popped it up using foam tape.
  9. Added few golden sequins next to the sentiment.

Card no. 4 - Mom-to-Be

1. Stamped the preggers lady on white card base and colored it with Zig pens.

2. Created a mask and covered her to create the bg with distress inks.
3. Stamped the pennants on top right corner of the card.
4. Stamped various sentiments from the Precious Arrival stamp set onto the bg using the same distress inks.
5. Stamped the main sentiment on a white card stock piece and adhered it using foam tape.
6. Added few sequins.

Card no. 5 - Stencil Tracing

1. Traced the stencil design on card base using a fine tip black pen.
2. Colored the pattern using Zig pens.
3. Filled in the white space with Light grey Zig pen.
4. Stamped the sentiment on white strip of paper and adhered it with foam tape.
